The brief

Stepping Out is a queer education nonprofit offering gender-affirming classes and workshops. The organization needed an identity that clearly communicated its connection to the LGBTQ+ community while conveying safety, community, and optimism during a particularly uncertain time for the people it serves.

The approach

I centered the identity around the image of a candle—a familiar symbol of warmth, refuge, and hope. Rather than using overt rainbow imagery, I incorporated a subtle glow in the colors of the transgender flag, allowing the organization's queer identity to remain unmistakable without overwhelming the mark.

The work

The final logo pairs a simple candle emblem with a soft trans-flag glow, creating an identity that feels warm, recognizable, and reassuring. The result balances clear community signaling with a broader visual message of safety, belonging, and hope.
